Evergon, SPIRIT IN ALL PLACES pour Thomas Marcantonio

This has been a difficult summer in a difficult year. My mother, my live-in partner of seven years, died at ninety-three years of age, very unexpectedly, at the end of April, and I took a big man’s fall in the Gaspé on the first day of my August vacation, bruising my good eye and leaving my body full of creaking and aching joints.

So, needless to say, Thomas and I met in mid-October to do this shoot, due the beginning of November.

I felt stressed and he was coming down with a cold.

Thomas was in a steel-grey suit and the studio still in an 18% grey. The spirit of the place was overtly doom and gloom. There were several days between the shooting and the shared viewing of the pictures. The camaraderie that should have started to bloom finally began.

Thomas and I narrowed it down from seven to two and then finally to the one of him brazenly pushing his stomach forward, head back, laughing

life is everywhere, its spirit in all places
in this studio, of which we barely see the background,
we feel over half a century of emotions,
pieces of a life, traces of a career all packed
from floor to ceiling along all the walls,
real or mucked up
the celebration spirit of life caught me for a short moment
it generated happiness and laughter
and that is what life is all about
the darkness background of the picture
opens your spirit to explore past, present and future places
life is always what one makes out of it.
