Here, Ciel variable makes available all the content published since the magazine’s very first issue, in 1986, except for those of the most recent three years. These archives, which contain over 7,000 images and 1,400 articles, feature about 1,000 artists and 400 authors. They offer an incomparable overview of how photographic practices have evolved, how they have been received critically, and how their dissemination by institutions has developed. They therefore compose an abridged and fragmentary history of contemporary photography in Quebec and Canada, in parallel with the development and institutional recognition of photography on the international scene.
