No photographers will be on tour in the Gaspé this year. The Rencontres internationales de la photographie, with its exhibitions scattered around a good part of the peninsula, is indeed taking place. But in these pandemic times, the current edition has been modified a bit. For instance, the Rencontres on Tour has become Rencontres on the Web. The good news is that this part of the event, intended to provide a close-up look at a given body of work, is lasting longer: for a month, videos, interviews, and archives will be put online. Among the featured photographers is Marco del Pra’, one of the makers of the documentary Atterwasch, the name of a German village slated for a devastating project: an open-air coal mine. The program starts on August 21.
