The time has come for action, trumpets the Black community. Here is one opportunity, among many others, to make a concrete gesture. Instigated at UQAM in 2016, the organization Nigra Iuventa – Black youth, in Latin – promotes an “other gaze.” Its action has become a struggle to eliminate the underrepresentation of Black artists, especially in the Quebec visual and media arts sector. Conceived as a “French Canadian decolonial platform with an interest in narratives by Afro-descendant communities,” Nigra Iuventa is, however, on a fragile financial footing. A fundraising campaign is underway. The goal: to raise $10,000.
