Authors: Erika Nimis | Artists: Akram Zaatari, Meryl McMaster, Pascal Grandmaison, Taryn Simon, Yto Barrada, Zanele Muholi

February 21, 2018 [originally published in CV108 in Winter 2018] — In June 2017, Le Mois de la Photo de Montréal metamorphosed to the Biennale de l’image, taking on the name MOMENTA, plural of momentum, which means “impetus, energy, force, thrust, drive, impulse”1 and often denotes a favourable or propitious situation. Pascal Grandmaison – Anja Bock

Ciel variable 89 - PLACES | Exhibition reviews
Authors: Anja Bock | Artists: Pascal Grandmaison

February 23, 2017 [originally published in CV89 in Fall 2011] — Blue-tinged icebergs? Handmade plaster sculptures? The sleek, cool signature of Pascal Grandmaison is hard to discern when we first enter his recent exhibition at Galerie René Blouin. His new works hold several surprises: while they continue his investigation of the mediated photographic act, the figure-ground relationship, and the representation of the invisible, the three works included here are rich in metaphor, melancholy, and artistic modesty.

[Summer 2008] Carleton University Art Gallery, Ottawa January 14 – April 13, 2008 A rupture occurs when an action is played out in its conventional sequence and then witnessed in reverse. The action’s asynchronous interconnection serves as a narrative and visual conceit; time runs forwards and backwards in a rearward déjà vu. In static form, […]
